I am sitting next to my brother, listening to him sleep like a hibernating bear. He was born with muscular dystrophy and was not expected to live past the age of 5. He is now 46yrs old. He has been released by the hospital into our care with hospice services. It is not even the dystrophy that is killing him. Neglect is. The group home he was in failed to notice that he did not have a bowel movement in weeks. Being lethargic and unable to move, he was finally taken to the ER. He was impacted, dilated to 14cm, had a UTI, pneumonia, and was in septic shock. He fought for his life in ICU. Home bound now, he is in really good spirits and is excited for Christmas.
